In our pilot gathering of Curious Company, we explored how artificial intelligence is beginning to reshape medical diagnosis, patient decision-making, and the everyday work of clinicians. Our conversation surfaced both excitement about AI’s potential to expand access, improve accuracy, and free up doctors’ time, as well as concerns about hallucinations, cognitive de-skilling, privacy risks, and the challenge of regulating rapidly evolving tools. We also wrestled with deeper ethical questions, like whether we hold machines to higher standards than humans when mistakes occur, or how much “black box” decision-making society should accept. Ultimately, we reflected on what roles human judgment, empathy, and trust should continue to play in the future of healthcare.
